Human rights – Rabobank publishes its global people vision and approach

Banking isn't only about financing; it's also about people. A cooperative is about people. And Rabobank, as a cooperative bank, is at the heart of society and touches the lives of many: from our employees and customers to the people in communities directly or indirectly connected to us. All these people have human rights, and Rabobank is committed to respect those rights. This is not a side issue, but essential in our mission.

Everyone deserves a fair and equal chance to pursue their ambitions.

As a bank, we influence people’s lives in many ways—both positively and negatively, directly and indirectly. There are human rights dimensions to everything businesses do. This means that in every role we play as a bank, we must consider the human rights dimension. Rabobank therefore affirms its responsibility to respect international human rights as set out in the UNGPs and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct, which we are committed to.

Overview of vision and approach

We are committed to safeguarding human rights. Under our sustainability aspiration ‘Enable People’ we work towards:

Respecting human rights within our own operations, business activities, and business relationships. Embedding salient human rights in our business processes. Supporting our business customers in addressing possible causes of labor exploitation in high risk sectors. Fostering social (and financial) inclusion within the private customer market in the Netherlands.

We are aware that we cannot do this alone and that is why we, as a cooperative bank, engage with our business customers, business partners, peers and other stakeholder to jointly learn and improve.

This publication outlines our 'Enable People' approach, where we are today and our next steps. Part of this is looking at where in our value chain human rights could potentially be most at risk of being negatively affected. We share this transparently in this publication.
