Moving to the Netherlands? Here's what you need to arrange

As soon as you arrive in the Netherlands, it’s important to register with the municipality where you’ll be living. This will give you a citizen service number (BSN): a personal identification number that you’ll need for almost everything, from opening a bank account to arranging healthcare and employment.

Your partner and any children must also register. Everyone living in the Netherlands needs their own BSN.

Keep in mind that scheduling an appointment and processing your registration may take some time. So be sure to plan ahead and bring all the required documents to avoid delays.

At Rabobank, we’re happy to help you once your BSN is in place, for example, with opening a bank account or applying for a joint account.

Moving to the Netherlands for work or residency? Health insurance is mandatory. Without it, you won’t be able to access medical care and won’t be protected against unexpected costs.
