When you arrive in the Netherlands, it’s important to register as soon as possible with the municipality where you live. You will then receive a citizen service number, known as a BSN. This personal identification number is required for almost everything, including arranging health care and employment.

Your partner and any children must also register. Everyone who lives in the Netherlands needs their own BSN.

Keep in mind that scheduling an appointment with the municipality and processing your registration may take some time. Plan ahead and bring all the required documents to avoid delays in receiving your BSN.
