On 1 November 2026, Rabobank completed its acquisition of Alfam, part of ABN AMRO. Following regulatory approval, all conditions for the transaction have been met. Alfam and Freo will operate together under the new company Sprankr, strengthening its position in the Dutch consumer credit market. Through Sprankr, Rabobank will continue to offer appropriate and responsible financing solutions.
A stronger position in the consumer credit market
Alfam has a long history in the consumer credit market and operates primarily under the Defam brand, while Freo is Rabobank’s credit provider. Customers will have access to credit solutions through multiple distribution channels. There will be no immediate changes for customers: the familiar Freo and Defam brands will remain. In addition, the new Lendris brand is being introduced, enabling customers to apply for loans through ABN AMRO and Rabobank.
Ron van Vliet, CEO of Sprankr: "This moment marks an important milestone for our organization. Bringing together the expertise, experience and strengths of Alfam and Freo creates a solid foundation for the future. With Sprankr, we are building an organization that responsibly supports customers in achieving their ambitions, seizing opportunities and making financial progress. I look forward to shaping this next phase together with our colleagues."
Annerie Vreugdenhil, CCO Personal & Business Banking ABN AMRO: “With Lendris, we are working with Rabobank to create a future-proof proposition that gives customers access to expert guidance and responsible credit options. We are proud of this partnership and look forward to continuing to support our customers effectively in the future.”
Next steps
Bringing both organizations together in Sprankr marks the start of a new phase. Further steps toward integrating the two organizations will be taken in the coming period, with a focus on a smooth and carefully managed transition and continuity for customers, employees and business partners.
