iDEAL is changing to Wero

You may have heard that iDEAL is gradually changing to Wero. Why? Because we are preparing for the future. Wero is a European-wide, single digital payment system – fast, secure and hassle-free. It makes online shopping across the border just as easy as in the Netherlands. Whether you want to order a book from a French online store or reserve a hotel in Germany.

Beware of phishing

You don’t have to take any action to be able to use iDEAL | Wero. So, beware of emails that ask you to confirm your account number or to register. This is phishing!

What exactly is Wero?

Wero is designed to make payments even smarter and easier across countries in the future. Wero is a new European payment system. The European Payments Initiative (EPI) developed it together with European banks, including Rabobank. Wero will replace iDEAL.

Like iDEAL, Wero is safe, reliable, and easy to use. But you will be able to use Wero for more types of payments. The goal is to create one payment solution for all of Europe.

What changes will you notice?

Starting 14 April 2026, you may see a new screen when paying a Payment Request. You will only see this screen once. Behind the scenes, more payment requests and online payments will be processed through Wero. This means that iDEAL will gradually change to iDEAL | Wero. Nothing will change for you. You do not need to do anything. You can pay as usual through your own banking app, with the same ease, trust, and security you know from iDEAL.

Watch out for fake messages

Rabobank will never send you an email asking you to confirm your account number or sign up for Wero. If you receive a message like this, don’t respond or take any action. Delete it immediately.

What do you have to do?

Nothing at all! We will arrange everything behind the scenes along with online stores. You just continue to pay quickly and securely as always. We will keep you informed about the arrival of Wero via this page.

All parties involved attach great importance to stable and reliable payment transactions. This is monitored by the Dutch Central Bank (De Nederlandsche Bank).
