Giving to charities enriches your life
Many people voluntarily give money, goods or time to make society better. This is called philanthropy. In the Netherlands, people collectively donate around 6 billion euros per year to charities. There are more than 45,000 recognized charities in the Netherlands. Most people take care of their donations themselves. But for people who want to give larger amounts, the process can be more complex. That’s were Rabobank Philanthropy Advice comes in.

Rabobank Philanthropy Advice
As a cooperative, Rabobank finds it important to do good for society. At Rabobank Philanthropy Advisory, we support clients who wish to make significant charitable donations or gifts. For more than 15 years, Philanthropy Advisers have been supporting people who want to do something good for society. Together, they explore what matters most to the client, which causes align with those values, and how the client prefers to give.
Rian’s story
Rian is a Private Banking client at Rabobank. When she decided to donate more of her financial assets to charities, she wanted guidance. “When you want to give significant amounts of money, it really helps to have someone who thinks along with you. How do I want to give and to which causes? There are so many charities, where do you start?”
Philanthropy Adviser Mathilde Stuyling de Lange helped Rian create a plan. During their conversations, Rian shared the themes she cares about: “Culture is close to my heart. It brings people joy and a sense of connection. But tickets are getting more expensive.” Rian also wanted to support children, because not all children get the same opportunities.
A tailored plan
Mathilde researched charities that fit Rian’s wishes and contacted the organizations She asked the organizations to create a clear plan: what would you use a donation for? Rian appreciated this approach. “You don’t have to commit to anything yet, but you do gain insight.”
Ultimately, Rian selected six causes, including Het Vergeten Kind, Fonds Kinderhulp and Stichting Appeltaartconcerten. She also started her own named fund within the Cultuurfonds that her family can continue in the future. Rian enjoys seeing what happens with her contribution. “For me, philanthropy isn’t about giving away, but about giving forward. Giving enriches not only others, but yourself as well.”
