The transition away from fossil fuels (such as oil and gas) requires major investments in renewable energy infrastructure. Offshore wind projects play an important role in meeting national and corporate energy targets. However, these projects are expensive and require long-term financing and collaboration between parties from different countries.

Investing in renewable energy

The Danish company Ørsted develops and operates offshore and onshore wind projects worldwide. While also active in solar energy, energy storage, and bioenergy. The development and construction of offshore wind farms require multi-billion-dollar investments and close cooperation between energy companies, financial institutions, and local partners.

Ørsted works with a group of international banks to finance projects in different countries and markets. They do this through long-term loans and other financial structures.

Our role

Rabobank has a long-standing relationship with Ørsted and provides financing at different stages of the company’s growth and project development. We have been involved in financing offshore wind projects, including Greater Changhua 2 in Taiwan. The electricity generated by this wind project helps Taiwan achieve national and corporate renewable energy targets.

Rabobank was also involved in supporting Ørsted’s capital markets activities. For example, the stock market listing in 2016 and a capital increase in 2025 to strengthen the company’s balance sheet. In addition, Rabobank participates in Ørsted’s global supplier program, which supports the value chain behind offshore wind development.

Contributing to the energy transition

Ørsted’s projects contribute to the expansion of renewable energy capacity across regions. Through financing and long-term engagement, Rabobank supports the development of large offshore wind infrastructure and the strengthening of value chains that enable the energy transition.
