Our sustainability approach in general

As an international cooperative bank, Rabobank is closely connected to the food and energy systems on which our society depends. These systems are under pressure due to climate change, nature loss and social challenges. This affects our customers, the communities in which they operate, and therefore also the role Rabobank plays.

Climate, nature and people

For Rabobank, it is therefore crucial that sustainability is integrated into how we make decisions and conduct our business. In doing so, we focus on three interrelated priorities:

Acting on climate Valuing nature Enabling people

These priorities help give direction to our sustainability related choices as a bank and apply not only to our own operations, but also to the activities we finance.

Our net zero ambition therefore goes beyond our own organization. It also includes the CO₂ emissions associated with our customers’ activities. The same applies to our approach to nature and people. Integrating these ambitions into the way we work represents a significant task for the bank, and one we are actively working on.

We recognize that climate change and nature loss are global challenges that affect all our customers – their homes, their businesses and their livelihoods. Addressing these challenges requires joint efforts across sectors and value chains.

Insight en solutions

What matters to our customers, matters to us. From homeowners to entrepreneurs, from farmers to retailers, from SMEs to multinationals. As a cooperative bank, we aim to support people and businesses in thriving in a changing world and help them prepare for what lies ahead.

We support our customers on their sustainability journey by combining financial solutions with knowledge, networks, products and services. From creating insight into emissions to solutions that help reduce them. From financing more sustainable homes to supporting future proof earning models in agriculture. From enabling renewable energy generation to contributing to efforts to halt deforestation in food value chains. Our sustainability approach is also about working together on solutions to these challenges.

Moving towards better

This requires change, including rethinking and reinventing the way we produce, consume and finance, so that we can work towards a more resilient future that stays within planetary boundaries and is socially inclusive. Rabobank aims to contribute to this, not only within its own organization, but together with its customers and the communities in which it operates. This reflects our role as a cooperative bank and our mission, Growing a better world together.
