Insufficient balance for direct debit

Many recurring expenses are debited from your account each month. Is your balance too low? Make sure your balance is sufficient within four working days so that there is no need to reverse the direct debit.

Top up your balance

If there is not enough money in your account, we will normally still execute the direct debit even if this means that you exceed your agreed overdraft. You pay interest on the amount by which you are overdrawn.

If your balance is still sufficient after four working days, we will reverse the direct debit. In that case, you will not pay any interest. You will also not pay any interest if you reverse a direct debit yourself.

Please note: the amount you owe will still be outstanding. This means you could fall behind on your payments to the organization that tried to debit the amount from your account.

Set up a push notification

If you want to receive a notification whenever your balance is too low for a direct debit, you can set up a free push notification (or email notification) in the Rabo App. We will then send you a notification if your balance is insufficient for a direct debit. You can then top up your account in time so we that we do not need to reverse the direct debit.
