We apply reference exchange rates if you make a payment with your debit card or credit card or withdraw cash abroad in a foreign currency. These rates are set by MasterCard and VISA, with an exchange rate surcharge and additional fees in some cases.
Transparent fees for payments and withdrawals in other currencies
When you make payments and withdraw money using your debit card, you pay an exchange rate surcharge of 1.4%. You pay an exchange rate surcharge of 2% if you do so using a credit card. Our calculator shows the fees applied to a transaction amount. It also tells you how much they deviate from the average exchange rate set by the European Central Bank.
What if you make a payment or withdraw cash in Europe in a currency other than the euro? We’ll send you an email once a month to inform you how much more you pay compared to the European Central Bank exchange rate. This is in line with European legislation. The aim is to make payment fees within the European Union more transparent. You’ll receive a notification per currency and per card type. You can unsubscribe from these emails at any time.
