Block, reverse, or stop a direct debit

Want to stop a direct debit? You can block it before it’s processed, reverse it afterward, or cancel the mandate.

Block or reverse a direct debit

With a direct debit, you authorize a company to withdraw money from your account. Don’t agree with the withdrawal? Here’s what you can do.

Block a scheduled payment in advance. You can do this through the business day before the withdrawal. If the payment is labeled “Forecast,” you cannot block it because it is a forecast, not yet a scheduled payment. Reverse the payment after it has been withdrawn. You can do this within 8 weeks of the withdrawal.

After you block or reverse a payment, you may still have to pay the bill. This depends on your agreement with the company.
