Savings account: add or remove an account holder

Having an additional account holder for your savings account can be useful, for example if you want to save with your partner, a colleague or a close friend. Conversely, you might already have a joint savings account, but you and the other account holder now agree that it should only be in your name.

How to remove or add an account holder

You can add one or more additional account holders to your savings account. This is called a joint savings account. You have two options:

    ‘And/or’ account
Each account holder is allowed to use the money in the account and can close the account.
    ‘And’ account
The account holders may only use the money in the account and close the account jointly. In order to withdraw money, all the account holders have to go to the bank in person and sign.

If you are an account holder or joint account holder of a savings account, you’ll automatically see this account in your account overview in the Rabo App. If you are your child’s legal representative, your child’s savings account will also automatically appear in your account overview.

At the moment, it is not possible to add an account holder to an existing savings account online. You can open a new joint ‘and/or’ savings account if you already have a joint payment account. You can do this in Rabo Online Banking or the Rabo App. If you do not use Rabo Online Banking or the Rabo App, please contact us to arrange this.

Give someone power of attorney for your savings account

You might not want to add an additional account holder to your savings account but still want to allow someone to view or use your account. In that case, you can give that person power of attorney for your savings account. If you use Rabo Online Banking, you can easily arrange this online.
