WhatsApp fraud

Did someone send you a WhatsApp message with an urgent request that you pay a bill? Be on your guard, because WhatsApp is used for lots of scams. Criminals often pretend to be someone you know.

Never transfer money without checking

Criminals pretend to be a family member, such as a son or daughter, who say they have a new number. This is immediately followed by a message asking if you can help them by paying a bill. Don’t fall for it!

Always call the person first (on their old number) and check if it’s a genuine request. If you haven’t spoken to the person in question, don’t transfer any money and don’t be pressured or rushed into doing so.

Also check the link of any payment request:

A genuine Rabobank payment request always starts with https://betaalverzoek.rabobank.nl/betaalverzoek A genuine Tikkie always starts with https://www.tikkie.me/ A bunq payment request always starts with https://bunq.me/
