Keep your security codes secret

Security codes are confidential. Never share this information with others and keep it to yourself. And don’t share them with us. We will never ask you for this information.

What we mean by security codes

By security codes, we mean the following data:

Your PIN Rabo Scanner Color Codes Your login codes or signing codes for the Rabo Scanner Your access code for the Rabo App Your usernames and passwords

Prevent others from watching

Your security codes are the key to your money and banking activities. Someone else can use your PIN, login details or codes from the Rabo App or Rabo Scanner to withdraw money from your account.

Always make sure that others cannot see your security codes when in public. Always hold your hand over the ATM keypad when withdrawing money. It will prevent anyone watching and you can withdraw your cash safely.

Prevent others from looking at your computer screen. We never ask you to share your screen or install software that allows us to take over your computer remotely.

Do not reveal your codes to anyone

Never give your codes to anyone. Even if you receive a call from a Rabobank employee asking for your PIN or other security codes.
Hang up right away!

Never enter your security codes if someone asks you to do so in an email, text message or payment request. This is a fake message.

We will never ask you to log in with your details directly from an email. Before clicking anything, check the link in the email.

Only use your security codes on www.rabobank.nl and the Rabo App

Always pay close attention to where you enter your login codes and signing codes. Only do so on our secure website www.rabobank.nl and in our Rabo App. Fake sites use an SSL certificate, which means they also have a padlock. This means the presence of a padlock is not enough. Always check the URL.

Never enter your codes on a website to which you are directed from an email or text message. This is often a copy of a website run by criminals. This website may be similar to Rabobank’s website, but it is fake. So always check the link before clicking on anything.

Use strong passwords

Always set strong passwords and/or use a password safe. Are you choosing a security code, such as a PIN or the Rabo Scanner code? Choose a code that is not easy to guess. Never use your year of birth, date of birth, part of your phone number, postcode, 0000 or 1234 in your codes. These are very easy for criminals to work out, for example via social media.

Use two-step verification

Two-step verification (2FA) provides greater security for your online accounts such as email, WhatsApp, Crypto Wallet and social media. This means that, in addition to your password, you use another log-in method. As a result, no one else can access your data. Even if someone steals your password.

Two-step verification works as follows

  1. First step: username and password
You can enter your username and password to log in to your account.
  2. Second step: two-step verification
You prove your identity in one of the following ways:
    - You receive a text message with a code on your mobile phone
    - An app generates a code that only works for a short time, such as Google Authenticator
    - You use your biometric data, such as your fingerprint or facal recognition

You will not be able to access your account until you have completed both steps.
