How to use your credit card online

Enter your credit card details to pay

An online credit card payment often starts by entering the following details:

    The name on the card The month and year in which the credit card expires The 16-digit credit card number The 3-digit code on the back of the credit card

Is this not your first payment with this online provider? Then there is a good chance your details are already saved and you won’t need to enter them again.

Enter your 3-digit security code

The Card Verification Code (CVC) for Mastercard and the Card Verification Value (CVV) for Visa are the 3 digits on the back of your credit card. This code provides extra security for online and telephone payments.

Complete your payment with 3D Secure

When you pay online with your credit card, you need to confirm that you are the owner of that credit card. You do this with an extra check: a digital 3D Secure signature. Mastercard calls this Mastercard ID Check, and Visa calls it Visa Secure.

How to confirm your payment Online

You choose to pay with your credit card in the online store. If your details are not yet known, simply enter them.

  1. A new window opens
    You are redirected to the Rabo App or Rabo Online banking and receive a notification if you have push notifications turned on.
  2. Log in and check the payment
    Check whether the name of the recipient, the amount and the last 4 digits of your credit card are correct.
  3. Sign for your purchase
    You do this using your 5-digit code, fingerprint or facial recognition.
  4. Complete your order
    To do this, go back to the website or app of the online store and click ‘Complete order’ within 10 minutes.
  5. Your purchase has now been ordered and paid for securely.

Purchase insurance

Almost all purchases you make with your credit card are insured against loss, theft, and damage:

• RaboCard: insured up to 180 days after purchase

• Rabo GoldCard: insured up to 360 days after purchase

Disagreement about delivery

It is frustrating when you buy something online with your credit card and the product is not delivered. First, contact the company you ordered from. Ask what went wrong and whether they can still deliver the product. If that does not work, ask whether you can get your money back.

If you don not get your money back, you may be able to dispute the payment with us. Whether that is possible depends on a few things.

24/7 fraud prevention

As with other payment methods, credit cards can also be used fraudulently. We check all credit card transactions for possible fraud. If we see something suspicious, we can take action and contact you if needed. One possible action is blocking the credit card.

Do you suspect fraud, unauthorized use, or a processing error? You can request your money back up to 120 days after the payment. It is then up to the online store to prove that it kept its agreements and acted correctly.
