Contactless payments with your credit card
With your credit card, you can make contactless payments, just like with your debit card. This lets you pay easily without entering your PIN up to a set amount.
How contactless payments work
After one payment with your PIN, you can make contactless payments up to €50 per purchase. For higher amounts, you simply enter your PIN, so your payments stay safe. Please note: contactless payments are on by default and cannot be turned off.
The reader is located either on the side or on top, depending on the payment terminal.

The screen displays whether your payment has been approved.

Contactless payments in the Netherlands
Contactless payments abroad
In most countries that use the euro, the same rules apply as in the Netherlands. In countries with another currency, you can usually also pay contactless. Please note: the rules for paying without a PIN may differ per country.
Secure contactless payments
For amounts up to €50, you do not need to enter your PIN. The chance that someone reads your details digitally is very small. And with only those details, they usually cannot do anything.
If you are unsure whether your details have been stolen, or if you have lost your credit card, take action right away and block your credit card, either temporarily or permanently.
Quick and easy way to pay when on the road
Many parking lots and garages and toll roads allow you to make contactless payments using your debit card. This is called Tap & Go: all you need to do is hold your card next to the machine.
In some cases you have to insert your card, check the amount and press OK. We call this Dip & Go.
Please note: the payment limits are different from the payment limits for ordinary contactless payments.
The maximum amounts are shown below:
Other forms of contactless payment
You can use Apple Pay as an alternative to contactless payments using your credit card. It works in a slightly different way from your debit card, but it offers the same convenience.
