Contactless payments with your new debit card
Contactless payments work after you have used the debit card once with your PIN code. You can then use your card to make contactless payments. This is how it works:
On the side or on top. It differs depending on the payment terminal.
No PIN code is required for amounts up to €50. But it is needed for higher amounts.
Contactless payment limits
You can make contactless payments up to €50 per payment without using your PIN code. You do need your PIN code for amounts above €50. Once your contactless payments have reached a total of €100, you will need to use your PIN code for the next payment you make. After that, contactless payments without a PIN code are possible once more until you reach €100 again.
Want to set a higher amount? No problem. Set the total amount for contactless payments without using your PIN code between €50 and €150.
Different limits may apply abroad than those in the Netherlands. However, a total limit of €100 applies, except if you have set a different limit. After that, you’ll have to pay once using your PIN code. This means you may not need your PIN code for amounts above €50 during your holiday abroad.
Contactless payments with a debit card or smartphone
Contactless payments are quick, easy and secure. You almost never have to enter a PIN code. Rabobank debit and credit cards automatically have a contactless payment option. You can also choose Apple Pay or Google Pay. View the options here to choose your preferred payment method.
Security of contactless payments
Contactless payments are as secure as other payment methods. An additional advantage of contactless payments without a PIN code is that no one can sneak a look at your code. Someone can digitally copy the data on your card, but that’s extremely difficult. If it does happen, there’s a good chance the culprit will be caught. Of course, it’s always wise to focus when you’re making a payment. Do you suspect someone has stolen your data? If so, take action immediately and block your card; you can also do so temporarily.
Dip & Go of Tap & Go
Payments in car parks and on toll roads are not contactless, but you don’t need a PIN code. This is called Dip & Go and works as follows:
• You insert your debit card in the payment terminal.
• Check the amount and press OK.
In some car parks, you pay via Tap & Go. You don't have to insert your card in the payment terminal, but you hold your card against it. Dip & Go and Tap & Go have different limits than contactless payments. You can pay up to a maximum of €100 per payment.
